Moving lectures out of the classroom.

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

I sitting at my laptop burning DVDs something I do every now and then. What’s really different about this session is that I’m burning a DVD of my Gasses lectures from last year. I’m starting a bit of an experiment about the effectives of shifting lectures out of class time. I’ve been posting my lecture recordings online as a supplement for the last few years but this will be a whole new experiment. I’m going to assign a lecture as homework, then we’ll have class time to do an activity focused on the lecture the kids have watched. It’s a simple idea with profound changes in how I interact with the students. So why am I burning DVDs? Some students don’t have decent internet at home, and what does that say about our country?
